MLB Closing Line Value by Sportsbook — March–October 2025

Across ~2560 MLB games and 40,522 moneyline prices from 8 Canadian sportsbooks, not one beat Pinnacle's closing line on average. The market-wide average was −2.30% CLV. FanDuel gave up the least edge to the close (−1.93%); DraftKings priced furthest from it (−2.57%). A book's CLV here is a property of how soft its lines were, not a bettor's skill.

Longer bar = further below Pinnacle's closing line. Every book priced below the sharp close on average, so all CLV is negative — the softest book simply gave up the least.

Beat Close runs much lower this season than in live seasons and isn't comparable with them. Each book's price here was taken at the same moment as Pinnacle's close, so a book only “beats” it by pricing better than Pinnacle at that instant. Compare seasons on average CLV.

On spread and totals markets the figure reflects price competitiveness at lines matched to Pinnacle's closing point — selections where the point moved are excluded, so this is not full line-movement CLV. The moneyline number is the true CLV.

Method: this season predates TrueLine's live odds archive, so prices come from The Odds API's historical snapshots, taken about 5 minutes before each first pitch. For each MLB game we compare a book's price in that snapshot with Pinnacle's, then pool by book across March–October 2025 weighted by number of lines. The moneyline leaderboard is the headline number — it carries no point-matching caveat.
